Biometric Attendance System

by Lim Ben-Jie on Mar.30, 2009, under Past Event

img_7742

After a lapse of three months, our advance thumbprint attendance system was again restarted. Through this system students are required to place their thumb on a scanner to scan their thumbprint. This in turn will enable their attendance to be taken. Much has been said about this system, so much so that many students and teachers from different schools are talking about it. This is a huge step in bringing forward our school reputation as being among the few elite schools in our country that are embracing and making full use of today’s modern technologies. We, as CONNAUGHTIONS should be very proud of this achievement. Soon many other schools in Malaysia will follow us in implementing this system. As what Dato’ Tony Fernandez from Airasia said “We lead and other imitate”. = }

During the first day of implementing this thumbprint system not too long ago, students lined up excitedly waiting for their turn to ‘thumb-in’. However, there was a bit of confusion as students were seen lining up in very long queues. With the help of a few prefects and teachers everything went smoothly from then on. As a few days went by, things started to get better and students were seen being more organized. I still remembered last year when I was in Form 3 Amanah, a programmer came in for the first time into my class to take my thumbprint and my friends thumbprints to be kept in the machine as records. From that day onwards implementation was quick and fast. A few days later everyone started using the machine.

This idea was actually implemented on our teachers a few months before it was implemented on us. The teachers use a similar system to what an average student is using now. It is quick and hassle free. Many teachers have said that this machine have lightened their burdens. With this, teachers have more time to concentrate on teaching in class.

I hope all of you will continue spreading news about our unique system to everyone, as a few of my friends were very impressed when I told them about this.

Earth Hour 2009

by DanielBoey on Mar.26, 2009, under Announcement

Hey Connaughtions,

Earth Hour started in 2007, where more than two million Sydney businesses and households turned off their lights for
one hour. This event sent a powerful global message that it’s possible to take action on climate change.

Just one year later, Earth Hour reached more than 50 million people in 35 countries across 18 timezones, and the campaign shifted from a Sydney event to a global sustainability movement.

In 2009, Earth Hour aims to reach one billion people in 1000 cities worldwide. It is indeed the first year Malaysia is participating in this event. It is a great time to begin a change in our everyday life to slow down climate change. We should not just stop here, but we should make a change in our lifestyle. For example, we can off the lights and fan when we leave the classroom rather than leaving it on. It is our daily lifesyle that need to be changed to save the enviroment.

Earth Hour will be on the 28th of March 2009 (Saturday), 8.30p.m! Off your lights and unnecessary electrical appliances for 1 hour!

Do something for the enviroment!
