Together as One Connaughtian.

by Lim Ben-Jie on Feb.09, 2010, under Past Event

6 February 2010, Saturday. A history making event was held in our school. It wasn’t one, but two history making events. A normal Saturday morning ended up being the most interesting day for many students in this school. Those who made the effort to attend on that Saturday witness for themselves how Connaughtians united as one and displayed togetherness. Omani students visited our school on a formal visited to learn about us and our culture. That visit itself made big news in our school. However, the second event made it an even more historical day for everyone. At 10am, students were mostly gathered at the school hall to paint chinese caligraphy. It was hosted by the Chinese Language Society of SMK Taman Connaught. All were assigned with a few chinese characters to paint as it was a competition. Many took part with high spirits although some have never painted chinese caligraphy before.

It was at 12pm that things got interesting. It was earlier planned that all participants hang their ‘artwork’ or caligraphy along the corridors of our school. Block A which consist of three floors and the badminton field was chosen as the site. With the instructions of Chinese  Language Society members and prefects, all students stood side by side and hanged their beautiful artwork along the corridor for everyone to see. It was an amazing sight as the bright red colours was very bold and strong in any persons eye. A photography session was also organised and a group of students proudly displayed words showing SMKTC TERUS CEMERLANG along the badminton court. Shouts and cheers were heard everywhere and everyone was all pumped up and excited. Endlessly, one cheer after another was shouted by all Connaughtians! So loud were the shouts that everyone felt proud and happy being able to take part in such an event.

This amazing day continued when the principal gave a rousing announcemet with new year wishes. Followed by wishes and a thank you by Puan Yeap as the organiser of the event. Memories were created on that day that will last for a life time. It will remain as a special day for all students and the excitement it had generated will be in the hearts of all students. As you look at the photos, think of the moment and remember what will school be like if we worked together. Seach for yourself and remember that you were part of our schools’ HISTORY!!

SUKANTARA 2010

by Lim Ben-Jie on Jan.29, 2010, under Past Event

Sukantara was held on the 29 of January 2010 exactly 32 days before the actual Sports Day of SMK Taman Connaught on the 2nd of March 2010. 4 sports houses converged on SMK Taman Connaught’s field to compete in 4 different events. The four are high jump, long jump, short putt and 100m race. Excitement was created with an early start before sunrise as students gathered at the basketball court. Warming up exercises were then conducted before all four sports houses namely Kenanga, Seroja, Mawar and Anggerik were separated into four different areas.

All four events were carried out simultaneously and was completed successfully by all students. Each participant will add 4 marks to their sports houses if they participate in all events which will be added up in the total tally of marks. Following that, a sport house of SMK Taman Connaught will be named the winner.

Events will continue next Wednesday and Thursday where chosen athletes from each sports house will represent their respective sports houses for the actual event where 100m, 200m, 4×100m, high jump, long jump and other competitions will take place before the actual finale on the 2nd of March 2010 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Something new…

by Lim Ben-Jie on Dec.02, 2009, under Present Issue

Something new is brewing up in our school.

Something that will be part of our schools history for years to come.

Something that we have all been anxiously waiting for a long time.

Look at the pictures below and you will know what I am talking about.

Block D

Block D U/C

Block D staircase.

It’s finally up. The first, second and third floor of our new Block D in SMK Taman Connaught. (Well, almost up)

However, there is still a long way to go before the building is officially completed.

For now, we have something interesting to look forward to next year.

The completion of this new building will bring about massive changes to our schools system.

Our Bengkel Kemahiran Hidup or Living Skills Workshop will be remembered as it was once located at this spot.

However, something new will be replacing it forever.

Deepavali Celebration..

by Lim Ben-Jie on Oct.20, 2009, under Past Event

On the 15th of October 2009, SMK Taman Connaught once again played host to the ‘muhibbah’ spirit that Malaysia is well known for. Deepavali celebrations were held on that day to celebrate the new year for the Indian community in this country. We celebrated among ourselves at the school level with a special assembly held on the 15th.

Students gathered at the hall by 12.30pm to await for the ceremony to begin. It started off with a presentation of gifts to indian students and indian teachers. Following that, a few short clips regarding the plight of the Indian community in Malaysia with one special video clip directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad who was famous for directing many well know films in Malaysia and the world.

This was followed by a speech given by our principal, Puan Radiah bt Nordin and with the singing of the Negaraku as the closing for this special assembly. Many thanks to all who made this event a success. May we continue celebrating the many different yet unique celebrations for many years to come.

HAPPY DEEPAVALI!
