Sukantara was held on the 29 of January 2010 exactly 32 days before the actual Sports Day of SMK Taman Connaught on the 2nd of March 2010. 4 sports houses converged on SMK Taman Connaught’s field to compete in 4 different events. The four are high jump, long jump, short putt and 100m race. Excitement was created with an early start before sunrise as students gathered at the basketball court. Warming up exercises were then conducted before all four sports houses namely Kenanga, Seroja, Mawar and Anggerik were separated into four different areas.

All four events were carried out simultaneously and was completed successfully by all students. Each participant will add 4 marks to their sports houses if they participate in all events which will be added up in the total tally of marks. Following that, a sport house of SMK Taman Connaught will be named the winner. 

Events will continue next Wednesday and Thursday where chosen athletes from each sports house will represent their respective sports houses for the actual event where 100m, 200m, 4×100m, high jump, long jump and other competitions will take place before the actual finale on the 2nd of March 2010 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

4 February 2009……

Today, everyone steps in to school as usual…

What makes it different from other days are the students’ attire and the weight of their bags! Since today is SUKANTARA day, we only study for 3 periods! THe rest of time??? LEt’s spend it under the blazing sun!

I could still remember… If i am not mistaken, the sukantara was held around March last year. But for this year, the OX year, (perhaps everything must be done as fast as an ox ) they hold it earlier… Perhaps there will be a BIGGER event , coming soon…  kakax xD

After the short assembly, Mr John, the beloved discplinary teacher who used to treat guys with his cane (=.=), leads us, students to do morning exercise in the hall. Space is limited in the hall. Apparently not everyone is follow his instructions. Perhaps we should have it outside the hall.

After the 30 minutes morning exercise, we are asked to head to the field. After the briefing, students from their respective houses are encourage to arrive at their respective stations. For example, Rumah Kenanga, they need to proceed to basketball court. All the students are encouraged to participate actively in this sukan tara because their participation will contribute some marks to their house. There are several rules that students need to abide by during the sukan tara. Students are not allowed to go anywhere except toilet with the permission of the prefects. Secondly, they must wear their own respective house attire in order to participate in this event.

After the students have arrived at their respective stations, they are allowed to start their activities. In this sukan tara, they need to complete 4 challenging activities such as high and long jump, running 100m distance as well as shot put. During the activities, students have shown great enthusiasm. They performed to their full ability and capability. This is a characteristic which our entire Connaughtians should emulate.

During the event, Mr.John shared a story with the students to foster closer relationship with them. Immediately after the storytelling ended, all the girls from their respective houses performed their shot put activity. The boys just sat down on the basketball court watching the girls throwing the shot put. Ultimately, the moment which the students have been eagerly waiting for has arrived. They are all allowed to go for recess after the exhausting exercise.

In conclusion, sukan tara is a good event because of the following reasons :

1) It encourages students to exercise to stay healthy.
2) Students can discover their sport talent through this sporting event.
3)  It helps students to balance their school work with fun activities, which is the sukan tara, so that they can be all rounders.
